INVISIBLE BORDER
SYNOPSIS
Invisible Border is the true story of entire communities caught in the middle of one of the world's longest-running wars, where the palm oil rush of large corporations, aimed at producing 'green' fuel, has displaced peasants and indigenous people, devastated natural habitats, and concentrated land in the hands of 'The Rich,' as the 'displaced' themselves call them.
Using anthropological research, victim testimonies, and detailed documentation of environmental impact, Invisible Border gives voice to the native communities who struggle daily to recover their lands, while also exposing the pitfalls of biofuel promotion policies.
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has just signed a peace agreement with the FARC guerrillas, laying the groundwork for an end to a conflict that has lasted more than 60 years. At the same time, the government plans to continue planting palm trees to supply Colombia and Europe with biodiesel. With this agreement, will the land be returned to its rightful owners or will it simply be handed over to multinational agricultural corporations?
